Immediate Action to the free swinging blade |
You need options: The free-swinging blade is a complex problem. The attacker's hand moves incredibly fast, and instead of just one stab, you're likely to face a rapid series of thrusts, like a sewing machine pounding away. When a sharp blade comes at you, it's natural to flinch, pull back, and try to hollow out (I'll address hollowing in sec).
So just grab the knife hand? Sounds like a good idea. That will stop the stabbing, right? Yes but not if you hollow out. When hollow, your arm can’t extend as far as THEIR arm can retract.
Then how do we attach? Like most self-defense best practices we don't want to move away. We want to get closer. YUP, close the distance between you and them, put your body on the same side as their knife hand. Now when you extend your arm while holding the knife hand, they won't be able to retract far enough to disconnect.

Insiders Look at Shivworks |
YouTube and Meta. They suck. I can't begin to describe the frustration of trying to put out material that is constantly labeled as a violation, while seeing other posts (including ones from our own accounts) that are way worse. I got a violation for posting a 10 second video of my empty hand!

What others are saying... |

This was by far the best class I’ve ever taken. Everything was taught logically and in small enough increments to remember and utilize the concepts after leaving the venue. |
