What's with Pepper? |

You need options: A gun is really good at solving a narrow window of problems. A knife is similar; I would argue not as good, but similar. The majority of problems you will have during your life will not require a gun or a knife to resolve. It’s also important to understand not all problems can be resolved with words alone. If that’s the case, you need an option that works in the line between a “harsh word and a gunshot.” (Thanks, Chuck.) It’s a good way to express the need for levels of force below lethal.
Like what kind? Chemical agents like OC spray fill that gap. Think POM (on our site)—one of many options. But the civilian stuff is toned down from pro-grade, with almost no risk of lasting damage.
So why bother? Hit their eyes with even a little, and you’ve got a reaction you can bank on. That buys you a window—run, deploy a weapon, strike, or reposition.
Here’s what matters: don’t just spray and freeze waiting to see what happens. Make shit happen.

If you’re in law enforcement, don’t walk to this course… RUN to it. It exposes significant issues with the vast majority of “defensive tactics” most of us have been trained on. You’re significantly undertrained in dealing with a combative subject if you go by the check the box agency required training.
